rear end question

I have a chance to buy an Eaton/Rockwell 12.25 H027 rearend for $25.00. I have read the only gear ratio offered in 1957 when this rear end was built was a 4:56 and a 5:13. I know it will be too wide and will have to be cut down. My question is: what do yall know about this unit. It is supposed one of the strongest rears ever built. It is an eight lug and will need axles redrilled. What are you thoughts? Please help.
