I am in the process of swapping out the rear end in my 70 Duster from the small 7 1/4 to a 9 1/4 that I found at a good price. My problem is that the brakes on the 9 1/4 are adding 2 1/2" to the width? what are my options as far as brakes to bring the width into where it should be, i.e. 1 1/4" on either side?

Thanks,

Well it's not the brakes that makes it wider it's the overall length of the housing.

Actually, it is the same width from backing plate to backing plate

That is good ?, I am thinking it might have come out of a Dakota possibly.

The original 8 3/4 A-body rear had a unique brake/ axle flange measurement that was different than any other 8 3/4. But i assume your going to the Large bolt pattern disc on the front to match the rear? If so the later disc set up widens the front stance of the small bolt pattern A-bodies by 1 1/2" anyway. So that rear will work under your car with the right offset wheels.
