Rear Gears for gas mileage

-
I was considering putting new tires on the car this coming spring, as the manufacturer date is going to expire. Any suggestions on a different size ?

If you go with something taller (in the rear) it'll have a very similar effect as installing taller gears which should help the fuel mileage some. If you kept all the first numbers the same but went with 15" tires they'd be a full inch taller which is a pretty substantial change. Only problem is you'd have to get new 15" wheels. If you don't want to change wheels you could step up to a P255/60R14 and gain close to an inch. Just make sure they're not too wide for your wheels or you'd be back at changing wheels again. They'll also be almost an inch wider so make sure you have the room there. If the wheels will allow and you have enough wheel well room you could even go up to a P275/60R14. They would be nearly 2" taller and 2" wider than what you have now and would drastically lower the rpm's down the highway which should help fuel mileage even more.
