I think I'm hosed on trying to find a set of gears for my 741 rear end. I cannot find 3.23's. I think I need to go to a 742 or 489. Does any one make lower(numericaly) than 3.23 gears for these? Im running a 408 with a 727 and 27" tires. I'm looking for a hiway cruiser, it seems like 3.55-5.13 gears all day long but no cruiser gears and I do not want to install OD. Ive checked the web sites of Yukon, US gear, Richmond and Motive- nothing.:(

I'm currently running sure grip 2.94's in a 741 case. I have a set of 3.23's in a 489 case that I want to put in next spring. I'd be willing to part with the 2.94's this fall.

The most efficient highway gear set Chrysler made was the 2:76. At least for the 8 3/4 rear end. I am not sure about the 7 1/4 or 8 1/4 rear ends. I currently have a 742 case 8 3/4 rear end with a 2:76 gear set. I would think you should be able to find one for your 3rd member. Randy's Ring & Pinion is a good place to look and I checked, and they do have a 2:76 for a 489 case and have a 2:94 for a 741 case. They may be able to find a 2:76 (or have one in stock) for your application. Good luck.

Have a complete center section 3.23 in a 489 for sale. In good condition very quite. make offer..

I did call Randy's and the 2.94 is a pull out and 352.00 for a used gear seems a little steep. The other gears are out of stock. I'm still searching
