So we pulled the 7.25 rearend out with 2.76's and installed the 8 3/4 with the 3.55's in the car. The swap went smoothly, we had new bearings pressed on the axles, changed all seals, gaskets, brakes, springs, lines, hoses. The 3.55 is an open, bought it from a mopar buddy that said it was in a running driving car with no issue. The rearend came out of a 71 dart we parted. We are getting a low droning noise on acceleration. I put a stethoscope to it and its definitely coming from the center section. My son said the one axle had a couple nick's in one of the splines. Could the be the noise?

My opinion is pull centre and knock it apart. Last thing you want ia a bearing to fail.
Maybe all it needs is a little dialing in?

I think you might be right, it's going to have to come back out and be either serviced or rebuilt. Which if that's the case, might as well put the sure grip to it.
