Rebuilt Alternator ???

Picked up this rebuilt Alternator. Looks like one of the grounds was bent in shipping. I noticed my other Alternator does not have the extra ground. I know grounding is a good thing, but do I really need the one that's bent over in the picture?
Second, take a look at the spacer. It's not really correct, and has the belts not lining up just right. How can I get that spacer out? Does it have to be pressed out, or can I knock it out with a hammer and punch or dowel? Thanks for any help

Remove the bolt and yes, you can hammer the spacer out, if it does not come out by hand

Looks like your alternator is one of the later square back models. It has 2 fields so they are isolated from ground. Usually the alternator grounds through the engine at the pivot bolt, where the spacer is. I can't give a reason for the bent ground stud, but my opinion is that you do not need that bent ground.
 
Thanks rigged up a little press with a bolt and socket. Thanks for the info. That's what I was thing on the ground also
 
ALWAYS be suspicious on an isolated field alternator (incorrectly called "dual field") that one of the brushes is grounded. ALWAYS inspect them for broken or missing pieces and check with an ohmeter. You should read quite low resistance between the two, and open/ infinity from either one to the case
 
Thanks Dell. Should I add a ground wire to the stud that's bent on the back there?
