Recommendations on K-Frame Installation

Hello FABO! I just received a K Frame today for my 66 Barracuda. IT has surface rust, which I plan on sanding down. My question is how should I go about painting it. Should I take it to the bare metal prime it and paint it. If so are there any recommendations on types of paint for the K Frame, or installation tips?
