Not sure if this is a good place to ask this question and it's not specifically for early A-bodies, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has purchased a remanufactured engine and if so who might or might not be recommended. A little back story to my question is that back in May my 2019 Chrysler 300 went through a sizeable puddle and sucked water into the engine and hydro locked. Insurance paid for a new engine but they got it from LKQ and after getting two engines from them - both bad, cam problems - the insurance company totaled my car. I have bought it back and have enough money to get a new engine for it but will not be getting one from LKQ. If anyone has a recommendation I'd like to hear about it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who read this - hope you get filled to your hearts content. As for me, I'm doing desserts!

Thanks
Chuck B

I wasn't aware LKQ sold anything but used engines. Jasper and ATK are two good reman companies.

Thanks, ATK is the same as LKQ and they do both used and reman but not good on the reman from my experience. Jasper only deals through their installation partners and the BBB reviews as of late don't appear to good. A good friend of mine (lifetime mechanic) recommended them as well but it's been years since he used them.

Which engine do you have?

I bought a 4.7 from Powertrain Products to go in my 2004 Dakota. I've not had the first problem out of the engine and was very happy with their customer service. I would buy another engine from them in a heartbeat!

Same with me. I've been retired for a while. Sorry for the bad info.

That's Jasper.

Did Jasper buy them since 2018? When I called to check on their 4.7's and started asking questions, the lady on the phone said let me let you talk to someone who can give you details. A guy named Ed answered everyone of my questions and then told me all of the upgrades and things they did to 4.7's to make them better. Nice guy to talk to, so I asked him what he did at Powertrain? He said he was the CEO! He was the head knocker....and talked like he did machine work and built engines every day. 4.7's were junk on the showroom floor with 2/10 miles on them, and they did a lot to improve them. If they really are part of Jasper, I'm shocked.

Call um and see. When you search Jasper Engines, Powertrain Products comes up and it says "Jasper".

Buy one from one of the big chain stores but buy one with the best warranty don't shop by price alone. Also plan on replacing some related items like the water pump I would also have the radiator cleaned and flow tested.

I will say, if I had to pick any reman company at this point in time, it would be jasper. We are friendly with them, as we don't really compete on anything at all, since we are 100% new/performance, and they are all PER. We don't do work for each other or anything, but I do catch up with the guys there about the industry and such. I would call them, buy an extra warranty if it exists, and follow their procedures for install, be it a shop sign-off, of whatever preserves the warranty.

Alternative is find a low mileage pullout, and pay someone (or yourself) much less to put it in, but it's a bit of a dice roll on how much life is left in A pullout.

Good luck!

Back in the late 90s I worked in a Ford dealership doing a lot of engine work and Jasper was my go-to for reman engines. Fred Jones was the Ford authorized reman but Jasper's warranty was better, and I never had to change one out. How times have changed.
