remote mirror questions 69 dart

I was installing my new remote mirror today & the chrome nut does not work on my dart--- can anyone assist? I found my old one & it works just not as pretty as the new one . The new one is larger & has depth the threads-- the old one is flush mount. This came from a 1985 date mirror assembly box pn 03695508. I guess the beauty is it says made in the USA!!
just looked up the pn on the mirror nut
