What is the best way to remove old brittle trunk weatherstripping? I want to put down some new trunk weatherstripping. I'm hoping to damage the existing paint as little as possible. What tools work best for removal and any suggestions on the best type of adhesive to lay it down?

get a can of WD40 spray around the rubbers base let it soak in and should come of fairly easy I would go around it 2or3 times let it set for 1/2 hour.that has worked for me.........Artie

I used Lexel to glue my old one back in place. It has held up perfectly.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I let you know how it works out when I pull the old off and put on the new.

Mine pulled right off without hurting the paint. But I'd use as mentioned.
