repair panel gauge?

What is a good gauge of metal for patching panels? I have a 63 dart and the metal is pretty solid. What would be the right thickness to use for repairs and changes I want to make? thanks

i make a trip to the local body shop and they are glad to give me an old hood for scrap metal. that way its coated and the right thickness. lots of curves you can play off of for corners, etc. did i mention, free? (dont use quarters, their 14 ga, good for unibody frame and brace work though)

Try to match the thickness of the panel you are patching. Not all the body skins on the early cars were made of the same thickness. Front fenders are surprisingly thick.
