hi all

i have to replace my master cylinder, i havent done one of these yet so im asking if theres things i should know in advance or if there are any tips you have, one of the main questions i have is if i can leave fluid in the lines to make it a bit easier to bleed them once done? is this a bad idea? the car is a 72 scamp with non-power drums all around, stock. any help is appreciated, also doe the brake pedal come off before or after taking off the master? anything else you think i should know feel free to post it. i do wanna do it myself though cause a)i need to learn sometime and b) i like to do everything with my car myself. so thanks again in advance!

first disconnect rod from brake pedal and also the brake lines from master. then unbolt it. make sure you dont get brake fluid on the paint.

in order to bleed master you will need to be able to push the rod in the master while keeping the two holes for the brake lines closed.

After you bench bleed it, just keep bleeding and adding fluid, until all the lines are flushed, of old fluid.

When you purchase your new m.c there should be a couple blue plastic fittings and 2 hoses.Hook these onto the m.c(in a vise)run the lines into the m.c(full of fluid)use a screwdriver on the end of the m.c(valve side)and pump til no more bubbles. If you don,t get the plastic fittings, find some plugs to block them from sucking air.Re-install the master and bleed your brakes, starting at the pass. rear, then drivers side,go to pass. front the drivers side(topping up fluid as you bleed)Make sure to use a big rag under the master to catch any dripping fluid.Happy stopping!:read2:

After bench bleeding, install, leave lines to m/c loose. Push pedal, bleed there, and tighten. Then start other bleeding. That gets the upper air, from taking off the m/c out first.
