Should the suspension be loaded when winding the torsion bars to lower the ride height, or doesnt it matter. Also should ride height be set before or after torqueing the rest of the front suspension? TIA

The suspension should be unloaded when you're turning the torsion bar adjusters, to lessen the chances of stripping any threads. Also, if you're lowering the car, you're actually supposed to tighten the adjusters as the last action. So, loosening the adjuster lowers the car, then tighten the adjuster slightly before leaving it. And the ride height should be set BEFORE torquing the LCA pivot nuts and other major suspension components.

The proper procedure is in the factory service manual

Tighten the lower control arm pins that go through the K-member and the upper control arm eccentric bolts while the car is on the ground with all the weight on the car.

Adjusting the torsion bar final ride height can be done on the ground. Just make sure the threads are lubed . They do it all the time when doing alignments. I never saw anyone lift the car off the pads to change heights on a rack. Everyone has their own way for their reasons. Been adjusting them on the ground for years and not one issue to this day. Unless you buy a new set of Chinkanese adjusting bolts I wouldn't worry about the threads.

Bounce the car in between adjustment. The correct height is the difference between the lower bushing pin and the lower ball joint. The shop manual specs are available for the correct measurement per the car you are working on
