Hey all,

I have an original rim blow steering wheel that I want to clean up myself. I will probably eventually get it professionally restored one day, but not today. Has anyone done this before? Any tips or tools that ill need to keep from further damaging the steering wheel Ect? The steering wheel needs a lot of work but is all original and all there. I wanted to try and clean up the metal spoke first. Can I use some fine grit stel wool? Or is that too abrasive? Thanks all!

I'm trying to do this on a budget. I've researched a few places who restore these steering wheels and they all charge an arm and a leg. Not ready to go that route yet. How much does Jerome Verbit charge?

I would try some 4 ot steel wool on the back side of the spokes with very light pressure.

The rim blow wheels are gorgeous when restored, but many $$$

Okay thanks ill try that first. I know they're tons of money to restore and purchase in good shape, but I just want to try and clean it up and see if I can bare having it in that shape for a while.

Last one he did for me was $595, but keep in mind that includes a new
switch and install. That guy has been restoring those for year's and it is alot of work, and from what I understand it isn't easy to install those switch's. Not trying to talk ya out of it or nothing.

Unfortunately I don't have the $$ right now to do that kind of restoration in a steering wheel. I just wanted tips on how to clean the wheel up without messing it up more.
