Hi All,
I'm attempting to rebuild a 489 rear end with new bearings and a crush sleeve eliminator. I'm re-using the old ring and pinion and the original pinion shim. Backlash is .0.009 to 0.010, a little high because I understand that's recommended for used gears.
I need some help reading the grease pattern. The drive side pattern seems unusual, as it's flat, not oval or curved much.
I don't see any noticeable wear on the ring or pinion, but I'm doing this job because the rear end had a whine. Can't recall if it was on accel or coast...
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Rob
