I'm not familiar with the guy's music. What is some of his better known stuff?

I dont watch award shows much anymore. But he probably was on there.

Anytime I've seen him on TV he was a true well spoken smiling gentleman. Jealous you got to meet him, good for you!

Yes he sang on The country music awards recently...
I think his baseball career was mostly in the all-black leagues of the day...
The funny part is everybody heard him on the radio and they absolutely loved him and then he came out in person and he almost put the audience and total shock LOL..
Ended up telling a quick joke, got everybody laughing and started in entertaining everyone and they all enjoyed the show...
