I'm going to use the 273 bolt ons for the 360 (except for oil pan and balancer). the 360 is mounting to a newer 904 (lockup type) trans. 8.75 rear going in:

Question: anyone in need of: stock engine, stock trans, stock 7.25 rear, stock floor shifter/console, cables and shifter???????????

I'm not sure the early 273 accessory brackets/belts/pulleys will work.
Didn't the 360 have a slightly longer crank snout/thicker balancer ?
I know the timing covers and water pumps have differences.
Good luck with it.

The 273 parts work fine so long as you use the whole setup. The motor mount only needs a little triangle welded to it and a hole drilled int that. Then a couple of flat washers to shim up the additional space to one of the ears. Oh, there is one hole in the lower crank belt pulley that needs to be ground a bit to move it over so all the bolts will go in.

Ive done 2, 318s into early As. This is the first 360, but its going into the 273 spot.

I've got the 904 and offset balance flex plate to use a neutral TC. V8 throttle, centerlink in place. I'll have to make the later 904 kickdown fit. Only the balancer is unique to the 360, but it will take the 273 crank pulley with a little mod. I' have the 360 pan and pick up (not sure if I will try to match it and pre-dimple the side a bit). I can either use the 273 timing cover OR the later 318-360 and move the 273 timing mark pointer to it and remark the 360 balancer. Going with a CI early waterpump. The alt. mount bracket should line up fine. No PS...so only 3 pulleys needed.

Not a difficult swap, you just have to prep a bit. Not sure on the length of the orig. 273 oil dipstick yet....we'll see how goes later.

Shifter???? not sure if I'm going aftermarket OR with a OEM 68+ dart console. I have to measure the new donor seats (Pontiac G6) to see if it will all fit.

Are you going to part out the 273? Interested in the crankshaft

yes, the engine (block, heads, crank, adj. rockers) all will go. so will the transmission and orig. puny 7.25 rear. its a standard 2brl. car. Orig. carb and air cleaner assy too will go.

You will LOVE the swap outcome along with the lockup unit! Make sure you get the external balanced torque converter or flex plate.

I am in Delaware. Pm me when you have it out.

will do. Shop closed next week, won't have it out until mid Nov when we are back up and running. Please shoot me a PM to remind me!!!!!!!

Already have a standard - neutral converter for the lockup and the offset bal. flexplate for the 904 / 360.

BIG decision is the exhaust. I love stock manifolds. never a leak. Headers? I have spitfires, but need to get some gaskets. what kind are best?

Good luck with the company version
any idea what you are going to want for the stock aircleaner?

I'm doing a 360 swap on my duster and I love the look of the old style black aircleaner

Its a 2 barrel carb. small base. would take a custom bottom to work on a 4 brl.

rats

(ive been looking at dual snorkel air cleaners and they want more for the air cleaner then i paid for the engine)
