Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida have all been hit. It looks like Texas is next. Latest predictions this morning are the Galveston/Houston area is where Rita will make landfall.

Hundreds of thousands of people are trying to evacuate the city already. I am going to wait until later today to make a decision. I have family near Shreveport, so if I do leave that's where I am headed. The tragedy in New Orleans has really opened people's eyes. I hope everyone trying to leave gets out safely.

Not exactly sure how today will progress, but I'll try and update you guys when I get a chance.

Seeing the pictures of the devistation from the last storm, I can't even imagine what those people are going through. Good luck to you and your family.

GotDart, you'd better get your butt out of there while the gettin' is still good! We don't want any more of you folks in peril down there. I heard on the radio this morning that the winds have reached 280 KPH, that's like 173 MPH. Gas mileage should be pretty good with a tail wind like THAT!! :)

GotDart! if i where you i would try to get me and my family out of the dangerous area, hope you will be fine.. and of course everyone else that may be in the path of that storm!

I've never been to Houston, but from what I understand it is a big, flat area with lots of swamps. If you do not have a very strong place to hold-up on high ground and your own stockpile of supplies; GET OUT NOW! To hell with all of the stuff. And yes, to hell with the Dart, it is all replaceable except you! Take it from one who knows, by the time you know it is time to leave it is already WAY too late. The only thing worse than loosing everything is being lost with it.

G-D bless Texas and head for the hills! -LY

Thanks for the concern and well wishes.

So far I have gotten the windows boarded up and most of the yard picked up. I still need to make room in the garage for the gas grill. Unfortunately the Dart is going to have to weather the storm outside.

I am not too worried about flooding. This is a fast moving storm, so as long as it doesn't stall out I should be fine in that respect. The big concern I have is the wind. I have several trees near the house that could cause some damage if they fall.

I still haven't decided to leave yet. The storm appears to be making a turn more to the North. That is good news as it puts me on the weak side. But I am going to get some things packed and loaded just in case. I'll let you know if I bug out.

Houston got lucky with this one. We had some pretty high wind, but not a lot of rain. The only damage I have is a few small limbs down and my mailbox blew over. The northward turn the storm made yesterday saved our butts.

I do feel sorry for the folks in far East Texas and much of Louisiana. They definately got hammered a lot harder than originally predicted.
