Just dissembled a junk engine. Two pistons are stuck in the bores, and the head is crusty.

The crankshaft has one major rust spot on the oiling hole of one of the main bearings. Guessing that it is pitted at that spot, does that suggest the crankshaft is junk? or can major rust be removed by turning it down?

Thinking this engine is going to donate the camshaft, Oil pump, Rockers and shaft and intake/exhaust manifold..maybe the crankshaft.. the rest is probably too much work to justify.. tho it could be fun to experiment and learn about head porting with out worry of making major mistakes on something that is rebuildable.

Suggestions welcome on what else to look at, or keep. It was an early 60's block, with canister oil filter,

The only spo I see on the crankshaft.

One of the lifters is about the same, any chance of it being able to be surface ground and reused?

clean it up with fine grinding paste and a lace or a strip of 1200 or 1400 wet n dry dipped in diesel

it'll be fine

dents don't matter its raised bits that gouge out the bearings

if its is confined to the area around the hole...no problem its a big fat journal
race bearing would be full groove i.e you can have a section of that journal unsupported.... so a bit that isn't supported no problem it will be full of oil

if pitting covers the whole width of the main journal there is a problem and a regrind of the mains is in order.
