I was wondering if anyone here could give some more info on the optional s83 deluxe wheel for the 70 Darts. Was this a 1970 model year only option and how common was it to find this wheel on a car?

My 70 Swinger came with one. I had never seen one before. I need mine restored sometime. We can both learn here. I will load some photos later when I get close to WI fi. Tmm

Yes, 1 year only wheel.
This wheel was an option back in 70, check the box and it was yours.
Most I have seen came in 318 cars. They are actually a very sought after wheel, clean ones going
for good money. Had when in my 70 when I bought it, and knew nothing about it.
The thing was pretty cracked up, so I chucked it. Kind of wish I had it back.
I have been looking for another through the years, but prices held me back.

All the swinger 340's I've had came with the wheel. The plastic breaks really bad on them.

Not a lot of them out there? Looks like I'll see about keeping it then. Although it is beat up badly. I have the center section, removed when I changed the turn signal cam.

Our 70 swinger came with one when new.Not the best with manual steering if trying to park.Drove my mother nuts when she pulled on the wheel.Dad swapped it for a standard with a center button.

I talked to a guy here at the Nats about restoring one. I also have a line on another guy that restores them. I heard around $500 but just a guess.

The S-83 rimblow is a pretty rare wheel in any 70 340 Swinger. They are not cheap to restore correctly. I used Gary's Steering Wheels in Carlisle, PA for mine. Excellent quality workmanship and a great guy to deal with. If anyone needs any additional information regarding the resto process send me a private message.

Dave,

Thanks for all the great information guys! I bought another Dart Swinger and it has that wheel as well as factory a/c. I will post some photos soon. When I squeeze the strip I can here a "click" but the horn doesn't sound. I will need to find the plastic bezel that goes around the A/C switches and radio too. who does restoration on those wheels? I also need to find a set of those W11 Deluxe Wheel Covers.
I love the front ends on the 1970-72 darts, those and the 67-69's.

I have a couple of those wire wheel covers.I didn't know they were used on 1970 models.

I may have a few of those w11 covers but I will need to check. I sold off a buck of parts a couple years ago and they might have gone.

On the brochure, did anybody notice the Rallye wheel with no center cap, and the steering whell with a 68-69 ? horn button? Kind of interesting.

I saw the no center cap. 70 was the first year for the rallys correct? Maybe the accessory catalog was written early before they decided what the center caps should look like. I noticed that there was no bench seat with a fold down armrest listed in the option books either. I saw 2 original 70 Darts this weekend that had the split with armrest front seat.

My 71 Charger had a rim blow horn- totally different- but - it was a pain to drive - you were constantly blowing the horn.......
