I have a 67 barracuda with a 360 in it. Is it possible to replace the rear main seal without removing the engine ?

Done that and ALL the bottom end bearings before, that odd *** upper half with the tabs on it makes doing a rear main without removing the crankshaft impossible.
Hope you don’t have that seal.

edit to add: if you have a lift it's not the worst thing in the world. it's like doing a oil pan gasket with an added kick in the sack.

but if you're working on the ground, it is a decidedly unenjoyable experience.

CAN it be done?
Yes. You will do it that way once. And not again.
I'd venture to say it takes more work to do it in place. Just as much, if not more, needs to be disassembled
and then you're still doing it overhead (if you've got a lift) or worse- on your back on the concrete or gravel (no lift, trying to work around jackstands with oil dripping in your face). The engine and a lot of peripherals have gotta be unbolted and lifted to get pan/K frame clearance anyway, not much more work to just yank it.

lol no lift no engine puller ill be laying on my back on cement floor

Absolute PITA to do it in car. You might fix the rear main and then your pan will leak because you couldn't do a good job cleaning up sealing surfaces under the car with all the stuff in the way. Gather all the parts and borrow or rent (they rent on the cheap) a cherry picker. Before you crack the pan, take the opportunity to degrease the engine and maybe paint it while you're at it. Clean the open engine bay and feel better about doing a good job the better and much easier way!

As far as the 'odd' winged seals, this from the '74 B-van FSM........

The engine is freshly painted. It doesnt have that many miles on it. Im thinking the oil leak is from all the extra air going in from the supercharger. Even though i have 2 breathers on each valve covers.

time to bust out the yoga mat or make do with the tijuana creeper!

getting the room to work is probably the worst part of the job. pulling at least part of the steering is necessary. you may or may not need to lift the motor to wriggle the pan clear of the k, it depends on the pan and what pump pick up you have.

clean everything *spotless* and don't overtorque it going back together and you'll be fine.

Once i install the new rear main seal and pan gasket i have to figure out why it blew out. I dont want it to happen again.
