I saw an add on Craigslist, called the guy and went to take a look. 2006 Ram pickup had a cab fire and totaled it, guy bought it for salvage. The motor has no intake (burnt some) scorched coils and no harness, but after pulling a valve cover it looks to be OK as far as the rest goes. No sign of damage beyond the coils, wiring for them and intake. Turned it over and it has compression, so I wound up with it for $1050 . I think I did OK for a 2006 5.7 that comes with the rear sump pan I need for the 65 dart it is going into. I will build the Hemi/dart combo as budget allows. Next phase is to buy the pinto rack and start fabbing up the rack and coilover set up to get rid of the T bars and steering box and linkage. This is going to be a slow project as I need to cough up 7 Gs for paint this summer when done, hopefully next month. So with TINCUPs post as a guide, plus contributions from others, I hope to have it going inside of two years. I will be going with the dual fourbarrel setup from Edelbrock with endurashine and of course the MSD ignition box. Hopefully TTI A body headers will fit with the rack/coil over deal. The other thing to find out about is if the headers available will clear the stock A body starter and 904 trans. Soooooooooooo, here we go!
Any helpful tips GREATLY appreciated!!

904, since I have a running 904/318 in the car already. Any idea what flexplate works?
Update on headers. The TTI web site says the headers won't clear the starter. So I have to decide if I want to spend 650 to 700 and start cutting them up besides, or build from scratch. I will have some time to figure that out though.

There's a 2006 5.7 from a truck on Craigslist in my town that has a rod knock but runs according to the poster. Was listed for $300 then last week he dropped it to $200.

That may have been a good deal, but only for someone looking to do a full rebuild or stroker. Didi he say hhow many miles were on it?
