Seat Dilemma

Hey FABO!

I have somewhat of a dilemma with my seats. My rear seat has cloth inserts in the middle of it. I'm dying this seat from green to black. I started dying the cloth sections after cleaning them and letting them dry. I ran into two problems. One, my dye won't take. It's some pretty heavy stuff. After I let it dry it dried on hard, not soft like the fabric was before. This leads me to believe that it had Scotchgard or something to that effect sprayed on it at some point. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? Can the Scotchgard be removed? or am I just going to have to get the center section replaced?

A lot of "how to remove scotch guard" articles out there if you do a web search.
I did my rear carpets with dye. Maybe the thread can help with the seat.

Ive dyed cloth before and afterward found it to be stiff. I just brushed it with a dry stiff bristle brush and it improved quite a bit.
