ive got a gallon of self-etch primer (napa brand by martin senour)that was reccommended to me by a body guy. i would now rather have the the epoxy but, i have already sprayed the door and trunk jams, as well as the engine bay in the self-etch stuff. it was 3 good coats on bare metal to seal it, but how long will it hold up until paint? i have been reading that primer will suck the moisture right out of the air, and i want to know if i am causing more work here. the car is inside and i am carefull not to touch anything already painted.

Etching primer does not protect well at all. It's designed to prep raw metal for primer and/or paint. I used PPG epoxy primer and that sh$t is tough! In smaller areas, that I had to grind through the epoxy, I used the etch primer but coated over it within a few days. Epoxy is a little tricky to work with and takes a day or so to setup completely, but it's well worth it. Also, wear a serious mask!
My 2 cents...
