good afternoon, i want to send my original sending unit out for a rebuild, in the past i used Wolfs and was satisfied but he is no longer doing this kind of work, can someone recommend a reputable shop to handle this for me and my Duster... thanks Rich

CRUZE...I think that I.S sends the units out to be rebuilt, i dont think they do it in house...i would rather deal with the actual guy thats doing the work if i can.

If he does, I do not know who he sends them out to. I think Todd? Is who I dealt with at Instrument Specialties.
Good luck

back log of 16 weeks...ouch
i found them in a search here but i remember someone here bashing the quality of the work so thats why i asked for suggestions. i dont want to wait that long for tri-starr ... maybe i will call I.S if i cant find another vendor

Spectra sending units are good. They are made on North American soil in Canada. I have used several and they work fine. Not a SINGLE one you buy, even an NOS factory piece will be dead accurate. They are OLD analog designs and were meant to be only an approximation. Just food for thought.

Supposedly Instrument Specialties offers to rebuild a fuel sender with an electronic sweep instead of analog. My buddy was quoted over $350 to rebuild an Early A unit, but never followed up on it. Also, not sure how the updated circuit would interact with original instrument panel.

Dana, my original unit is obviously50+ years old and a little crusty, i usually send out all my senders to be tested and parts replaced, it might be just for piece of mind in the end but im fine with that...

Rebuilt Fuel Sending Unit Specialist

Never used these guys, but I've heard they are good.

this guy is not a good choice he completely fucked my sending unit it leaked where he brazed a new pipe in it , the new connection he put on the sender was way bigger than stock so the wire would not fit he told me to just cut my new harness and wrap the wire on it . when he sent it back to me he listed it as a new part so i was charged border fees . everything he touched on it he fucked . all i got was an empty wallet then after all that it didn't work

That's interesting. As I said, I never have used them, so I have no personal experience with them.

The senders aren't that complicated, so I would think you have to be really inept to screw one up.

I sent my sending unit to Instument Specialties in February. They refurbish them on site but are sent out to be replated. Cost was $230. And was told to expect delivery in June. The delay I was told is the backlog at plater. Hope this helps and clarifies a few thing for you.
Dan

update..i emailed I.S about a fuel sending unit rebuild without plating, its a daily driver project. they said around 60 days and probably $179-$215

Have you considered giving it a go yourself, maybe get a friend's help if needed.

At the risk of being a smart ***, there is a cheaper way, get rid of your car and find another hobby. Very little in this hobby is inexpensive, sadly, I do not see it ever getting better. We wait for over priced items, you can either do it or lump it. I too cry about it, but in the end, what will you do? You have about 4 or 5 choices here, pick.one.

Sir your way out of line, i never complained about the cost of anything, i was simply asking about options for a rebuild since the Wolfs stop doing them, he did 3 for me in the past, i never cried about anything, ive done 2 rotisserie restos in the past, im well aware of what things cost, and no i wont get rid of my newest project, we are all in the same hobby and we all love it or we would sell our projects, money is not an issue for me. I only put the cost of what I.S quoted as to help others that were thinking about sending their sending unit out..Thanks for all your replys..Rich

Not out of line, I never got nasty, won't mention who, (other threads), they accept his comments, no matter how nasty, but he's a good guy. It just struck me that you were trying to cheap out , I don't need plating, it isn't always Burger King.
Say and do what you want, asked and got answers.
I'm out.

I’m totally with mad dog on this one, I didn’t see him complaining about anything he was just looking for feedback.

thank you to hotrod and davescuda, Im glad you guys can see where im coming from i was ONLY looking for feedback, im not sure why the other poster answered my post with negativity or why he read so much into it..This forum has some great members and i will continue to enjoy its content.
