The maximum cut length for a pair of axles run with a sure-grip without thrust buttons is actually 25.625". This is the distance from the edge of the wheel bearing journal to the end of the spline.

Edited my post for correction. I'm assuming that .125in difference from 25.5 to 25.625 is the 1/8in you were talking about over the phone?
