Shift arm and spring re-installation help please.

I did a search to help my memory along and could not find results.

Is there a trick to putting the shift arm back into the column and get the spring set in the right place?
I took mine apart a few years ago and don't remember how it goes. I checked in the chassis manual and didn't find the answer either.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Not sure what your manual says. Here's from the '73 manual. Seems cut and dry.

You know I did see this drawing in the 73 manual. I guess it was late at night and I didn't look at the cross section. Guess the spring will sort of find its seat....
