Shifter possion

I'm instaling a new shifter in my project 69 Cuda. The trans. is in park when the shift lever is all the way back. Seems like it was towards the front when I took it apart. Can anyone tell me if this is right. I cant find anything in the book that shows this. I hope that it goes to the back or I will have another problem to overcome. Thanks for any input. Tom

Your right, the shift lever should be all the way forward.
You did'nt mention what type of shifter your installing!
Is it cable drivin, if so , the cable must enter the trans lever from the front, if you brought it in from the rear it could account for your lever being *** backwards. The only shifter to my knowledge that has the cable entering the trans from the back is the cheetah scs.
