I have a quick question for the group, it’s been a while since I’ve posted last. (Having a baby will do that too you)

I have picked up a 400 and a 440 both (mid 70’s) complete short blocks and I’m wondering it makes sense to part the blocks out. To sell the rods and what other usable parts on the motors. I honestly have never tried so I don’t know the market for it.

Thanks,
Ty

Not much value in old pistons/rods. You might get a few dollars for the crankshafts if there usable. 65

Keep them oiled and leave them assembled. Depending on condition and intended usage they may be serviceable with hone/rings/bearings down the road.

I want to keep both blocks for projects down the road. Got the old offer you couldn’t refuse on them so I bought both.

Sell for profit and buy a nice block and rotating assembly.

How much on a 440 steel crank and LY rods? The 400...not so much.

Sounds like my best option is to leave them in the blocks until I decide on what I’m going to build. Most likely stroke both of them

You might stumble into that one guy who wants to build a 451 on the cheap, using a 440 cast crank and stock rods. I've got a few 440 cast cranks sitting around myself...and that 'one guy' hasn't shown up yet, lol.

JDMopar,

Also good to think about!
