Should there be a grounding strap from the engine to the body?

yep, used those "noise suppressors" before I understood the little that I do, with mixed results. The problem is that a ground loop acts as an antenna and whatever it picks up gets put into the ground side of the electrical system. Then a noise suppressor is needed on the ground wire as well. Even then the suppressors can only do so much. Better is to not have the loop(s) in the first place. Might still need the suppressor(s) if you have noisy equipment, but that's a different discussion.

Anyway, didn't mean to derail the thread, just to raise awareness of ground loops.
