I have installed LED lights in the dash and complete M&H wiring harnesses in my 67 Barracuda convertible as part of the rebuild.

After much cursing, the dash is back in and now I am now chasing electro-gremlins. No dash lights, horn, flashers, dash lights, left turn signal.

So, as part of the gremlin chasing, I am changing the blinker flasher (old one currently clicks & cycles very fast), and the Signal-Stat 175 flasher for the emergency flasher does not make any sound and the flashers don’t work.

Before I pay the high price for a new SS175, can I use a common blinker flasher in its place, even if it just to test the system?

All old school flashers depend on current through the flasher to heat them up and cycle them. I'm going to guess "no" a conventional one won't work. If you just want to see if the lamps all light, you may be able to do that, or just put a jumper wire across the flasher socket.

There was a recent thread about a flasher part no. but I doubt I can find it

Did you remove the steering column during the replacement?

The body shop removed the steering column for painting.

As soon as my back cooperates, I will be back at work on the wiring. I can buy the directional signal flasher, but the emergency flasher appears to be pretty much eBay only.

BTW, how do you test the SS175? I connected power to one post and a ground to the other. The directional flasher clicks, SS 175 did nothing. Shouldn’t it also click if working?

It should with the correct voltage

Ok, it’s a dead SS175. Since I don’t know a comparable replacement, it’s on to eBay.

BTW, the flashers are for incandescent, not LEDs.
