Slant 6 oil dipstick chaos

this should be easy but is evading a solution. car has cut dipstick tube so i started with new dipstick and cut it down 1/2" from bottom of pan, and continued removing 1" at time but continues to be struck by crank when engine on. anyone have a guess on proper length of dipstick measured inside engine ? thank you for any thoughts on this - appreciate !

Bend the dipstick tube towards the block it will move the dipstick away from the crank

ok will try that - cutaway image (attached) suggests should not be an issue given dipstick path in block.
