Looks like my 70 /6 needs a rebuild. Local (Detroit) performance engine shop has given me an estimate at $4000 - $5000. Seems steep to me. What do you guys think something like this should run?

Also, if they're going to have this thing completely torn down, what recommendations do you guys have for what should be done and what parts should be used, especially if I want to add some performance later (new intake, sbbl, headers, etc.)?

you can find a rebuilt for less than half that. Try local engine rebuilders, Jasper, etc. See them on the Bay also.

4-5K for a HP build with intake and headers...sure...

i had 4K in mine just getting it on the road, stock converter and gears...

but just make sure you build it for what you doing...

Once I had the local college automotive class rebuild my motor. The cost was parts and the instructors were very grateful for the "hands on" experience that the students received. The instructors supervised the students closely and I ended up with a very good motor that ran like a top for years.Hope that might help.....
