Slip yoke maximum pullout

727 transmission. Long (6.75"?) slip yoke.

To seat into the axle requires us to pull the yoke 1.75" out of the tailshaft.

Is this safe? In the past I've only had them out an inch or so.

I only run them 1" out.
Never have lost a front u-joint.

that seems excessive. I've seen what happens with too much hangout and too many rpms. It ain't pretty. The whole back half of the tranny blew up on a friend of mine, twice!

There is longer slip yokes with more spline in them but should only be used in a non performance situation. Kim

The slip yoke is pretty long. 6.5" or more. And it's splined all the way down to the bottom. Splines stop about an inch from the tip of the yoke.

UPDATE. Drive shaft/slipyoke length issue solved. Common 8.8 issue when swapping to a C4 trans in fox bodies.
