I have a 1969 dart with a 904 and column shift. The column shifter has a ton of play and the gears don't exactly line up with the dial/indicator. I have to sort of feel around for drive, which is somewhere between 2 and D. Is there anything to be done about this?

Probably. There are a few bushings that install in various places. You're simply going to actually have to LOOK at the linkage and see what's what.

get yourself a FSM my dude. you can download one here: Service Manuals – MyMopar

if you want a hard copy, i have a thumped well loved one that's missing a cover that i''d sell cheap.

anyway, like RRR said, there's plastic bushings in there that are probably roached out, there's also mechanical adjustment so between the two of those you should be able to get the indicator indicating and the selector selecting. all of that is outlined in the FSM
