Caller ID hs provided a way to avoid that loooong winded call from the sister-in-law (ratchet jaw) for quite some time. I'm thankful for that.
Now there is a way to tell her someone died or whatever without having to listen to her. Yup SlyDial automaticly routes the call directly to the persons voice mail.
Honestly... I couldn't care less. I dont even have a cellphone or voicemail.
So what am I on about ? It's the 'D' word ! The rotary phone has been extinct over 20 years! Nobody "dials" today. I suggest we start a movement to remove the word "dial" from language used in the context of communication, i.e. dail a phone number, ***.XX on your radio dial, and so on.
Oh and that sister-in-law.... she can read about it. I aint calling her. LOL
 
I'm too cheap for that.

I just let the machine pick up. If ya don't want to leave a message, then ya really didn't need to call me in the first place :toothy10: .

If I feel like talking, I'll pick up. The only person it bothers is my little brother, but that's my job as a big brother, isn't it.
 
So which word exactly do you wish to replace "dial" with? Punch or press or...?
 
Well RedFish still have "dial-up" internet available even though it's done with a push button phone.......and still have a "radio dial" on a couple of my stereos. Can't lose the term yet............

As far as your sister-in-law goes....can't help 'ya.

But YES....caller ID is the BOMB......:hiding:

That is/was my point. The word dial wont be removed no sooner than the keyboard is put back in alphabetical order. LOL
Fossil fueled combustion engines are here to stay too although the crank to "crank" them with has long since vanished.
When our children question the origin of these terms they'll "Google" them.
Will "google" someday fall into the same catagory as "dial" ? Probably
Notice how much easier it is to start something new, like "google", than it is to end something old like "dial".
I have to wonder if the folks who launched this new call to voicemail service took any of this into consideration before branding "slydial" rather than "ringaround", etc...
