small block heads, 4027596 casting # any good??

-
Hey guys i'm looking for some advice on heads for a small block. I'm putting a 360 in my scamp come spring and am wondering about these heads. They are casting # 4027596. I did a little reaserch and from what i was able to find they are hp. 360 heads, came on cop cars, trucks vans etc. Is that correct? I'm a young guy (17) and am looking to get all i can out of this motor but money is super tight. I've been working on a trade for my /6 stuff to a guy and he had these heads he wanted to trade. I know that j heads are really the best thing to get a hold of but really i don't have the money that most people want for them. I guess what i'm asking is are these heads worth doing anything with? I'd love to try and get a nice port and polish on them and bigger valves, somewhere in the area of 2.02/1.60's, you guys know the deal. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!!
Lots of helpful info as I am getting ready to put some on my 78 360 and hoping they will hold up with a blower

It used to be a lot harder to make junk parts go fast but we had fun doing it. Tracks are ten times better, tires are 100 times better, state of art back in the early 1980’s was super stock springs. Not many could afford to run custom pistons or the high cost of after market rods. I was super proud of running 9.82 with a .030 440 with TRW pistons, stock rods, and 906 cast iron heads on super stock springs. After 3-4 years of Racing 2-3 times a week I would throw the stock cranks on the scrap pile as everyone I had magnifluxed were cracked. A lot simpler times now.
I read this back in 2021 and thought that's just brilliant.
I have heard of guys running stockish 440's into the Nines and was amazed.

My avatar car a 68 Dart ran 10.40 with an all iron 440 back twenty years ago.
It seemed an impossible task to get into the Nines without some NOS.

So now its back to the track with a small-block Duster for me and the head saga's start again!
I want to see how far I can go with all iron 371ci engine before gettin exotic.

I have a pair of Speedmasters in the locker if I don't make the Ten's again with all iron.
Good luck to everyone going racing this year.

RIP PB racer, you are missed.

Went a little off topic there after reading the thread.
I have a nice pair of 4027596 heads and a shed full of J heads too.

I want to see if the later smog 360 head will out perform the J head?
Yes they will be ported to the Max and have 2.02-1.60 valves to make them equal.

Don't have a flow bench just a very crowded 1/4 mile track called the Pod.
There 'were' maybe ten tracks in the UK and now just one good one and some old airfields.

Net Zero is coming to the UK and a ban on 'NEW' petrol and diesel cars too, in 2o3o.
I guess its the end of the road for UK gas guzzlers, so its track time only from now on.

Enjoy your time at the tracks around wonderful America and stop beating on each other.
Make love not war and respect the Donald.

my all iron 355'' is well in the 9's and it's far from exotic, heck even the rockers are iron. it's all in the parts selection.
