I picked up a 360/727 when I got my parts form Dart Sport. How much will interchange between the magnum and non magnum motors? My questions come from picking up an '03 Durango, and am looking at a Dakota. Is there a source for interchangeability between the LA and Magnum motors?

what is it that you are looking to do. Put an LA motor in the dak or darango?

The simple answer is, put the 360 I have in a Dakota. The Durango has the 360 in it already. I am also considering Magnum heads on a 318 I have for my '68 Dart. I'm wondering if using magnum heads will make 350 HP easier for a 318. These are some of the crazy ideas I have swirling around in my head like a tornado in a hurricane ;)

What I would like to pick up is a a 4X4 X-Cab Dakota with at least a 318.

If your wanting to put a LA into the Dak you will run into trouble as they don't have the new style truck mounting bosses cast onto them like a magnum engine. You can put a magnum engine into an older car though as it has both sets of mounting bosses cast onto it.

Not much will interchange from engine to engine as the LA was a flat tappet cam engine and has different bolt angles on the intakes. Plus they oiled the rocker arms differently.

Using magnum heads on your 318 is possible. Just have to get a magnum style intake for it or have the intake mounting holes re-drilled in the heads and use oil through push rods (that's how the magnum rockers oil). They are a nice upgrade that makes good power. Only problem with them is they are very crack prone. Most factory magnum heads you find will be cracked.
