Because of the big-ger cam with it's rough idle, the roughness at idle could mask flattened cam lobes. Hard to diagnose without removing the intake, but can be done by removing the rockers. Then measure the rise/lift of each prod.
Before doing the above though, I would try a different ign system; that would be the dist, coil & and getting rid of the 7al.
