Extra rocker cost, extra intake cost, headers that likely don’t bolt right up if the exhaust port is raised, basically direct changeoverability. (I made that word up but you get it.) They wanted to hit the largest customer base, and that means a direct replacement for the head that 90% of guys are running.My 1 gripe about the SM heads. Why did they not copy the small block Victor heads? They did for the big blocks. Small blocks run good when the pushrods are out of the way..

I bought the standard SM heads last year and the chambers on those only measured 60 cc's, not the advertised 65.@mgoblue9798 Thanks. Now that I've bought the heads from midnight swinger I'll talk to the shop about your suggested pistins. The 308s have 72-65cc and the SM have 65cc so we will see what the shop thinks about the compression ratio.

I have the heads with hyd roller springs. Also, (out of curiosity and because I recently obtained much better tools for measuring volumes) I remeasured one of the heads today. I got 62 cc's. I purchased a set of the ProMaxx 171’s for my 340 build a couple of years ago NIB from ProMaxx and they cost me more than this price for the TFs. Think I paid $1,499 + the ride. Guess prices may have come down some. Haven’t taken mine out of the box yet. The ProMaxx’s have some bowl blending done and 5 angle valve job, according to ProMaxx. I dealt with the owner of ProMaxx. Can’t remember his name but actually seemed to want to help the customer. I’m not sure about any machining/bowl work on the TFs. If they do, looks like a decent price but I have been out of touch with costs for a while.
