So I was cleaning up my gauges today and a buddy dropped by with another buddy who was a Mopar "expert". He says my speedometer was wrong for my 69 Barracuda. He thinks someone changed it. Not being an expert on these matters I was sorely taken aback, and considered selling the entire project and moving to Madagascar.
Then I reconsidered.
He said the numbers were supposed to be all horizontal for '69 and as you can see from the pic, they are splayed out radially. I googled it and the pics are all over the place as far as how the numbers go.
He also said that since it has the Formula S package, it should have the 150 MPH speedo. I thought that was an option.
Can someone steer me in the right direction?

150 speedo is a decor pkg, not the S option. He is right with the font. 69 I believe is straight vertically. With clip on speedo.

Ah. So the expert was right and wrong. Looks like my speedo was changed at some point. Thanks guys.

A quick Google shows them both ways on '69's and I found one for sale listed as 67 to 69 that matches the OP. kdbunn, is you car an "early" 69 SPD ? using up '68 inventory before they switch to horizontal.

Yes I found the numbers both ways on 69's and even some 68's in Google. My car is an early December car. Thinking the old inventory should have been used up by then???

Something Ma Mopar is famous for. Use up what was in the parts bin from last year.
She was good for "Never done ".

1969 needs restoration. I parted this car out and have the vin tag.

Keep in mind that promotional literature may not reflect actual production. I have seen things in factory literature that was never hat way in production.
Often the cars in the literature are preproduction and may have features or details from prior years.

no thumb wheel radio 68/69 only
Dart as well.

But in the photos I posted there is only one that shows the radio and it looks to be thumb wheels so there must be something else that Steve saw.

steering wheel is different in the pics ??

Yep, for darts too. 67 has horn ring and hard plastic chrome center, 68 69 have paded horn pads etc.

But still the horn is not visible in the photo Steve referenced.

The plot thickens!

The 150 mph speedo was included for the Formula S in 1966, but not in 1967 or 1968. My 67 273 and 68 383 came with a 120 mph speedo. As long as the speedo works I'd be happy.

Ahhh K, forgot that(more familiar with 67-9). Thanks

Steve, Steve how did you peg the photo I posted as being 67

All good info. :thankyou:You almost have to live 2 lifetimes to know everything there is to know about these cars. And to remember them. I guess i'm going to have to find a good 69 speedo. Don't need a 150 MPH one.
Who has time to look at the speedo when you're doing 150 anyways? :steering:

67
Burl wood applique (I think 67 only)
No OFF/LOW/HIGH on the fan switch (border is smaller than the heater controls)
Round radio knobs
