My torsion crossmember was hacked up by some wingnut who didn't know how to work in cars. The part that's missing is where the floor was cut out for a 4-speed hump.
My question is: should I splice a section of crossmember from another car into mine, or just replace the whole crossmember? The rest of mine looks good, no rot.
I have no plans to drive it on the street, just drag race it.

I would section in a piece if the rest of it is solid.Changing the whole piece will be a real pain. It welds the the floor, rockers and both front rails.

put the section in you need as long as they didn't cut into the cross member section with the sleeves

My son had to do the same thing in his 67 notchback for the same reason. He just welded in the cut out section from a donor car as was recommended in the previous posts. Replacing the whole cross member would have been much more difficult and really is not necessary.
