Sport Mirror Installation Help

I am installing a set of sport mirrors on my 74 duster. The mirrors mount with a screw and a stud/nut. The question is: What does the screw attach too? Does it just go into the sheetmetal, or is there a nut insert in the door? Any help would be appreciated.

The screw just goes into the sheetmetal of the door.

uses the same hole as a remote non ralleye mirror

The hole on my left side mirror was "enlarged" and it had machine screw with a nut on the inside. So I wasn't sure how it was supposed to attach.

Yup, someone stripped it out. You could use an oval head machine screw and it would look the same as original.

I am doing the paint and body work on it so I will weld the hole up and fix it properly.

In my attic of my garage I found a box with 3 sets of them. I have been collecting a-body stuff for years. Most of the stuff I acquired when $50 was alot to pay for a sharktooth grille.
