Starter question

Hey guys, when I turn over my 318 when the starter disengages it continues to spin at high speed and takes it a couple of seconds to stop. It's also kinda loud and annoying. My question is this normal for a 44 year old starter?

lol, im shocked it works at all , its sounds like its hanging engaged. its probably time for a new one. 44 years is a good run for a starter.

Ok will a starter from a Dakota or something fit. I have hooker competition headers.

im using a big ol factory starter with my hookers and hedmanns with no issues. i dont know the exact interchange but i think its a 96 or 97 dakota mini starter will work. maybe someone that knows for sure will chime in for you.

Yeah what he said..But replace it with new starter from magun engine .
