Plug wires, cap and rotor, in 98% of cases, wont leave you stranded right away. They waer out with time, and degrade slowly. I hink you need to pick up a manual for what ever you're working on, and follow the diagnostic chart. I would tend to agree, if the plugs are not flooded(wet with fuel), that is' either ballast resistor, pickup, or module. The most expensive part out of the 3 is like $20.

Check the spark on one plug. Is it not really strong so I would say your coil is down...

if the spark plugs are wet with gas ,but not burned is that a good thing?

you might have no spark.. check all your ignition components and the coil at first...
