I need a power steering box for a 72 Dart Swinger I just bought. I tried adjusting the old box to take out the excess play, but the screw didn't move but 3/4 of a turn and now it's impossible to adjust any further, so I guess it's spent. Wondering who makes a quality reasonably priced steering gearbox, and if I need to wonder about the diameter of the Pitman arm shaft. It appears there are 2 possible sizes, but the 1-1/8" shaft is in most of the replacements I've found. If anyone can shed some light on this it would help me, thanks.

Joe

edit: I always forget to check rockauto.com when I'm looking for parts (which is a mistake, they're hard to beat), and I just bought a Lares brand (I have one of their steering racks in my foxbody, seems like good stuff) 2.5 T gearbox. Will be much better than the stock ratio box. Previous owner replaced the pump and lines so it should be an easy (dirty) swap.

There is a flat spot on the splines which locates the high spot on the sector. That flat spot has to be face up and centered when adjusting the box or it will bind. God 72blunblu should be here shortly with advise from the California bible. He know everything . Voted for Biden and Carmella

Firm Feel can rebuild your box and give you better road feel at the same time. '72 and older A,B, and E bodies came stock with the small sector shaft. C bodies and the all '73-up models came with the large sector shaft.
