Steering Shaft

For those that have rehabbed their steering column, did you paint the shaft..?
How did they come from the factory..? I can't find any info.

I painted the portion that protrudes into the engine bay beyond the lower bearing. This picture was from when I was still fitting the headers/steering column, so no bearing installed and not fully painted. But it gives you an idea.

They're not painted from the factory because they are supposed to collapse in a wreck and the paint would cause it to bind.
