I rebuilt my 727 this winter, my first trans since I finished the 4th year of my auto apprenticeship. My first torqueflite too. The trans has shifted great UNTILL I made about a 3hr trip with the car and I kept the rpms around 2800 the whole trip. The problem is it makes the 1 -2 shift fine but WILL NOT shift 3rd no matter the speed or rpm. And suddenly after alittle driveing with grab 3rd but stays there untill manually shifted out. The trans is pretty standard with a reman valve body I got from a local tranny shop and I had our trans specialist at work put a TF-2 shift kit in for me. When I had this problem I first figured the kickdown linkage. I am swapping to a lokar cable jsut dont have it yet so I checked and re-checked my factory linkage with no change. The tranny guy at work figures either a broken spring or a sticking 2 - 3 shift valve that the long trip of being in 3rd so much has pissed off? Any other ideas?
