stock 340 carb size????

I was told from a friend that the 340 cars came from the factory with a 800 cfm carb???? Is that correct?? thanks Steve

Depends on the year.

Year??? This just a question--Not working on one,He said some of them came with a 800 and some of them came with a bigger carb,I just can't imagine the factory putting on a carb that big on a small block.

The Thermoquad they used from 71-73 was an 850 I believe.

A 68, 340 like mine came with a 625 AVS.

Yup, the 340 carbs from 71 on were 850s.

340 and 360s came with both 800 and 850cfm Thermoquads depending on the year. Remember that the thermoquad uses the small primary bores for good street manners and then has the spring loaded secondary air door which regulates flow up to whatever is needed, to the max cfm of the carb. That is why they were able to be used on Binder pickups (International Harvesters) that probably had a max cfm demand of 400-500cfm.

That spring loaded secondary makes them very versatile.

1971-1973 340 TQ carbs were rated 800cfm 1-3/8" primaries & 2-1/4" secondaries.

1974 & up 360 HP TQ carbs were rated 850cfm 1-1/2" primaries & 2-1/4" secondaries.
