So with an A-body rear end with the stock spring locations and little work done to the wheel wells on a 68 Dart, how much tire width and height can I get by with little to no rubbing on an 8" wide wheel and 4.5" bs? I'm open to anything but am primarily looking at 17" wheels.

My son's Dart is running 16x8 Torq Thrust 2's with 4.88 backspacing and 245-50-16s. They rub only when the chassis rolls over to one side, like turning into an inclined driveway (not too many of those here in Fla....).
4.5 b/s would probably rub the outer lip unless the car is raised up.....

O boy... Not at all? Just looking through the wheels and tires thread I can see people using the same wheel size and backspacing with a reasonable tire. Are the Dart wheel wells smaller or something?
